Enabling community forestry in Papua New Guinea

ACIAR Project FST/2016/153 aimed to improve rural livelihoods through family-focused community reforestation and agroforestry in PNG. This included the provision of recommendations to the PNG Forest Authority for policy changes to facilitate improved application of community forestry. Field research was undertaken in Morobe and Eastern Highlands Provinces with the project’s outreach partners: Ramu Agri Industries and PNG Forest Authority (Eastern Highlands).

This intervention was led by the University of Sunshine Coast with support from the PNG Forest Authority and Forest Research Institute. PIP was responsible for the dissemination of project information and resources via the PIP website and associated platforms.

Development of quality-of-governance standards for REDD in Papua New Guinea

ITTO Project PD682/13 aimed to develop a draft standard for evaluating the quality of governance of forest management and associated emissions reduction activities in Papua New Guinea. The voluntary standard was accompanied by a set of governance resources and journal papers developed by project partners in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

This intervention was led by Griffith University and the University of Southern Queensland with support from the PNG Forest Authority. PIP engaged stakeholders during the drafting process through online surveys, face-to-face meetings, multi-stakeholder workshops, and field-testing at project sites.
